Motivate Me privacy policy

PBM Studios · Last updated: 5 October 2026

DRAFT. Not yet final. Do not link this page from the store listing until the checklist in this file's source has been cleared.

The short version

1. Who we are

Motivate Me (package com.pbs.motivateme) is published by PBM Studios. In this policy “we” means that publisher. You can reach us at pbm-support@googlegroups.com.

2. Who the app is for

Motivate Me is for people aged 13 and over, and the app asks you to confirm this before you can use it. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has signed in, write to us and we will delete the account.

Some countries set a higher age for agreeing to online services (16 in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy, for example). If that applies where you live, please use the app only if you meet the age your country requires.

3. What stays on your phone

These are kept in the app's own storage and are not sent to us:

If your phone has Android backup switched on, Android may include the app's data in your own backup to your Google account. That is a feature of your phone and your Google account, not something we operate.

All the quotes are stored in the app. A quote is never fetched from a server for you, and we do not see which quotes you read.

4. Signing in is optional

Everything in the app works without signing in. If you choose “Sign in with Google”, the app uses Firebase Authentication (a Google service) to identify you by your Google account, and Cloud Firestore (also Google) to store one small profile document that only your own account can read or change.

Held by Firebase Authentication: your Google account identifier, the email address and display name Google provides for the account, and a Firebase user id.

Stored in your profile document: your name, how you would like to be addressed, star sign, age band, language, chosen background, your place in the quote order (a few counters and a shuffle key), and the time of the last change.

Never sent to Firebase: your reminder times, your Premium status, anything to do with ads, any photo, and your relationship answer if you gave one.

The profile is written when you sign in and again after you change your setup while signed in. It lets a new phone start where the old one left off. The data is stored on Google's servers, which may be outside your country. Signing out does not delete the profile; deleting does (section 9).

5. Where the quotes come from

Most of the quotes were drafted with the help of AI writing tools. They were then checked with automated and AI-assisted review and approved for release by us. They are written once, ahead of time, and shipped inside the app: Motivate Me does not generate text with AI while you use it, and nothing you type is sent to an AI service. Where a line is credited to a named person, the credit is shown next to it, and a credited line is never addressed to you by name.

The quotes are encouragement, not medical, psychological or financial advice.

6. Content updates

The app can download updates to its quote collection. About once a week it asks our content server, hosted on Cloudflare, whether a newer version exists and downloads it if so. That request sends nothing about you or your profile. Like any web request, it exposes your device's IP address and ordinary technical details to the server. We do not use this to identify you, and we do not link it to an account. Updates are digitally signed and the app rejects anything that fails the check.

7. Advertising and purchases

Ads. The free version shows banner and full-screen ads supplied by Google AdMob. To serve them, Google may use your device's advertising identifier, your approximate location (worked out from your IP address), your device type and how you interact with ads. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, a consent form from Google is shown before ads load; you can reopen it any time at You → Ad preferences. In any country you can reset or delete your advertising identifier, or opt out of ad personalisation, in your Android settings. See how Google uses data in advertising.

Premium. Premium is sold and billed by Google Play. Google tells the app, on your phone, whether your subscription is active. We receive no payment details and keep no purchase record of our own.

Photos and sharing. If you add a photo to a card, the app uses Android's system photo picker, which gives the app only the picture you choose. The card is made on your phone and shared through your phone's share menu. We never receive the photo or the card.

8. Reminders

Reminders are scheduled by your phone from quotes already stored on it. We run no push server, so we do not know whether a reminder was sent or opened. A reminder may begin with the name you gave the app, which can be visible on your lock screen.

9. Deleting your data

Open You → Delete my data in the app. It takes effect immediately and there is no waiting period.

If you can no longer use the app, see how to delete your data without it. Uninstalling the app removes its local data but not an online profile. Google may keep deleted data in its own backups for a short period under its own terms.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to see, correct, export or delete the data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict how it is used. The only personal data we hold is the account and profile in section 4, and only if you signed in. Write to us and we will send you a copy, correct it or delete it. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

Advertising data is held by Google, not us. Use the controls in section 7 or Google's own privacy tools.

11. Analytics and tracking

We do not add our own analytics, crash-reporting or tracking tools to the app. The Google components described above (sign-in, Firestore, AdMob and Google Play) process data as described in their sections.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top always shows the current version.
